Minusy: "Because we missed our connection on our incoming flight, due to a delay leaving Newark by Swiss, Swiss cancelled our returning flights. So when we got to the airport on our return day, we were not booked on any flights. We were required to stay overnight and take a United flight home. Will avoid Swiss in the future."

The seats are tight but I was in the economy plus section so I thought she should have let me recline instead of physically moving my seat upright. And for someone who cared so much about the seat at dinner no one cared about me the rest of the flight. I slept through breakfast and no one left me a tray even. Plus, I had my seat back the rest of the flight including landing which I didn't realize. Isn't it their job to ensure our seats are in upright positions in case we forget or don't realize? Just a very blasé crew."

About Covid. The thing is that you cannot submit it unless you as a passenger fill out an Austrian address. The electronic form does not have the option to rule out staying in Austria and indicating that you are transiting in Vienna. I had to fill that form out (at the Address in Austria section) with sentences like “not applicable” “transitting” and also had to google the Vienna Airport address for the zip code so it could be submitted. The form forced me to fool the it. Not cool. Frustrating."

The woman behind me gave me the local phone number for Austrian airlines and I was able to get on a flight to US leaving in 30 minutes. I managed to make it, and would not have had I waited another hour in line. Why no surge of staff to help? All 3 help numbers on my Lufthansa e-mail receipt could not help. Horrible experience."

The flight crew refused to intercept it and have it brought up to me at the aircraft. To make matters much, much worse, the flight crew eventually gave up and left, leaving me LOCKED inside the jetway for over 30 minutes after calling for a wheelchair. The replentishment crew refused to let me out of the locked jetway. Only after the wheelchair arrived was I let out of the locked jetway. I was taken to the Austrian Airlines service center where I lodged a formal complaint. Supervisor/Rene refused to upgrade my seat in any fashion to compensate for my distress. He did, however, arrange for me to given access to the VIP lounge and then taken to my VIE-SOF gate. Had I had a shorter layover, I would have missed my connecting flight."

Plusy: "The Airbus 330 is an improvement over the Boeing 737 that took me to Europe (via Milan) on this trip. Unlike that flight, this plane is equipped with an updated on demand entertainment system. I attribute the upgraded airplane to the fact that this was a direct flight from HEL to JFK. Still no wifi though... Their magazine says it's coming. Upgrading to Economy Comfort is worth the fee especially if you get a bulkhead seat. Otherwise you are still pretty crammed in with maybe 6" more leg room. But the bulkhead seats are set well back from the wall to give my long legs plenty of room to stretch and get in and out of my seat. My friends in Economy looked miserable :( The chili con carne with rice was an improvement over other airline meals but still room for improvement - mostly in presentation I guess. Lingonberry 'salad' though a bit sour for me, was a nice Finnish dish to sample. Like the cheese and crackers. Departed and arrived on time. Liked the flight tracking that showed you very detailed what you were passing over and even gave us a bit of info and photos about highlights of each region flown over. Nice touch."
Minusy: "This plane was such an improvement over the "bucket" that flew me to Europe that it has restored my faith in Finnair as a valid carrier for my yearly trip to Europe - like I said, probably because it is a direct flight to New York rather than connecting to another European (not Scandanavian) city like Milan. I would probably not use Finnair to access other parts of Europe for this reason. (On the departure end, the regional Finnair flight from Milan to Helsinki was also sub-standard.) I do think the check-in procedure is still cumbersome - self check in with bag check, though started at kiosks, still results in a long line just to hand off your bag to a counter agent. A few more agents would likely solve that problem... But it was better than going the other way - JFK was a nightmare! Helsinki only slightly better."

I planned my trip with more than enough time to make connection... Called about my travel insurance and found out it kicked in after 6 hour delay. Customer service should never make you feel like the issue is your fault."
Plusy: "I liked most of service except seats space with economy . it was impressive to see Scandinavians and Korean flight attendants cooperate each other . Both of them were gentle ,kind and nice !"
Minusy: "The e ticket info didn't accord with the real ticket info such as gates so if you don't check out the bulletin board properly , you may wait in wrong gates but not that crucial. It's always about the airport problem with crowded passengers or in size not aeroplane. Everything is about time control . ICN is quite large in scale so I couldn't use duty free shop due to so many passengers and the spacious hallways even though I had 2hours . perhaps you gotta presume it as 3hours for enough time . so I had to throw out my lotion or moisturizer at ICN .pfff I wasted my money :p"
Minusy: "After waiting around in the airport for almost 10 hours we were finally told the flight was cancelled and my direct flight turned into a taxi transfer and 3 flights with a day lost on my vacation. I was not offered any compensation however I heard some passengers were given $7 food vouchers to be spent only in a small convenience store that was the only store open."

The phone consultant assured me she'd ordered it. However onboard the flight attendants said it had not been ordered and even accused me of not phoning up. I almost had to get out my skype phone records to prove I had tried to order the meal. One flight attendant said he would order it for the next leg of my flight, but when i got on that flight it showed he had not ordered it. I had tried to order this meal 5 times via the etihad website and it did not work. I also added my frequent flyer number which showed as going through, but it did not register (a fact i only found out after the flight). Also felt uncomfortable with the fact the safety video was only half translated into English. Arab speakers had a travel prayer said, English speakers did not get the prayer."

The plane itself was fairly comfortable, a noticeable step up from budget lines, and the staff were an absolute dream. Very very friendly, never seemed put out and frequently checking on passengers. The difference of inflight entertainment technology was certainly VERY noticeable & I actually preferred it. Better, clearer, bigger screens. It just changes the experience for the passenger if we can be happily distracted."
Minusy: "Really only the food. There was one meal which I didn't eat after tasting - it was just tasteless and not worth eating. A scone sandwich would have been more preferable. I still believe the standard of inflight food could be raised a notch or too, even if it was looking at a company like Pret A Manger and offering some nice sandwiches, fruit and soup, that would be more desirable and satisfying."

Felt like second class..."
Minusy: "The comfort for a long haul flight is never great, but the seats were exceptionally small and cramped (and I am a small person). The in flight internet I purchased but was unable to use after being charged for more that one email -- it went out and stayed out. $22 down the lost unless I can get refunded, which I have requested. If Etihad doesn't refund me, I will be taking it up with Paypal as well as other review sites and business channels."

Plusy: "The pillow that cradles your head and neck! I've flown with many international airlines over 20+ years and Etihad is now my number one choice. It seems to really think about passengers' comfort. I also enjoyed watching documentaries on fashion designer Michael Kors and singer David Bowie."
Minusy: "Flight attendants were polite but one told me, "You should put the tray up." I suppose she was thinking in French, where people say "il faut faire…" To an English speaker "you should" doesn't sound soft. I think the flight attendant wasn't aware of the nuance in English. Everything else about her was courteous, and everything else on the flight went smoothly. I would recommend Etihad to anyone."

Upon calling them to inquire and confirm departure time, I received "confirmed" times from three different employee's that were all different. I spent a total of 88 minutes on the phone with them incurring long distance calling fees. Then, once settled, my layover went from 2.5 hours to 7 hours. They offered NOTHING to remedy this fault. Oy, first and LAST time I fly Etihad."
