You must ask for alcoholic beverages, it is not given readily. We had a 14 hour layover and supposedly an overnight hotel was provided. Rude staff and very complicated boarding experience. Had passport checked 9 times.

Boarding was straightforward in IST, but security was strict (everyone's passport, boarding pass, and Covid tests were checked and re-checked 3 times within about 40 ft by 3 different sets of TK employees), with a final carry-on bag check with bomb nitrates swab for every passenger. And that was before boarding passes were scanned to step onto the plane. I first flew Turkish Airlines in 2005 and was extremely impressed. (The strict security process for flying to the US was much the same then as now, when they flew from the old Istanbul airport.) I have flown TK several times since and seen improvement, but not at the rate of its competitors, especially in the region. However, for my last trip (with a long leg between IST and LAX) they were half the price of other flagship carriers. Food quality, quantity and variety have declined, although that may be due to Covid restrictions. The lavatories remained clean but at least one ran out of TP & all other paper supplies half way to LAX. A couple of passengers (in economy, with me) took to using the business class lavatories and got into a dispute (real shouting match) with the flight attendants about it. (The passengers were in the wrong and escalating with unreasonable demands, but one flight attendant let his temper get the better of him. I didn't count but it seemed that there were fewer flight attendants on duty, with one being a fully robed "hygiene officer".) They did take Covid seriously, and distributed hygiene kits with masks, wipes, etc. to every passenger. If transiting through Istanbul before a long flight leg, consider using the airport hotel (YotelAir) within the terminal for international transfers (behind security). Reserve a room, as it was booked out when I last flew through. Otherwise, there are few places to sit down or rest once through to the International Transfers area.

After the plane takes off, the flight attendant said that can not refund me the upgrade. I was extremely frustrated and felt discriminated because of my age and size. I demanded to sit back to my original assigned seat but they refused. Not to mention, the flight was delayed!! Unpleasant experience and a rip off."

Minusy: "After missing our connecting flight in Istanbul on our Turkish Airlines flight on January 9th from LAX-Addis Ababa (due to a nearly 45 minute delayed flight), my sister and I had to spend 24 hours in Istanbul and still pay for a night in our 4 star hotel in Addis, despite the fact that we weren't there. So, in preparation for our flight back to LAX, I spent hours on the phone with a Turkish Airlines representative to ensure that we would not miss our connecting flight on the way back to LAX on January 29 (Jomo Kenyatta-IST-LAX). The TA representative spoke very little English and became incredibly frustrated with me when I expressed my concern about how closely scheduled our connecting flights in Istanbul were. The representative said she could "help us" by seating us at the back of the plane from Jomo Kenyatta-IST, as she was "mostly sure" that our plane would deboard from the back of the plane once we arrived in Istanbul and, in theory, we wouldn't have to wait behind all the other customers to exit. This was totally incorrect: our plane only deboarded from the front exit door and the seats she selected at the back would surely have caused us to miss our next flight were it not for the fact that the plane wasn't full and we arrived only a few minutes late. Still, by the time we got off the plane in IST, our connecting flight was already 15 minutes into boarding. We showed the TA attendants our boarding passes at the long security line, and at first they both said, "don't worry, it will be fine". I had to convince them to let us skip the line as we would clearly have missed our flight. Once we finally made it through security we ran through the ENTIRE Istanbul airport to get to our gate, as we could hear them calling the final boarding call for our flight to LAX. We literally ran as fast as we could for almost 20 minutes straight, with all of our bags, which ended up being over a mile, I would guess. When we got to our gate, we had to go through yet another security line - WHY??? Apparently there was a celebrity in front of us, and while we were sweating and nervous about missing our flight, the security agents were taking selfies with the celebrity. It was insulting and rude and totally unprofessional. The take away for me is that Turkish Airlines should NOT be allowed to sell flights to people that give them less than an hour to make international connecting, especially in an airport as large and disorganized as Istanbul, and especially when Turkish Airlines flights are often late or delayed. This was one of the most stressful flying experiences of my life."

I paid for this incompetence by missing Christmas and a business meeting. Do not think it will never happen to you, it is just a matter of time that this kind of bad service catches up to you. I thought I will make it to the connect flight to LA but the gate was already closed. I was instructed to do multiple errands, to get Turkish visa, etc all on my expense to be able to exit the transit as an American citizen and be able to take Turkish airlines bus to the hotel.The hotel was fine and the meals. The problem was that they calculate bus traveling time wrong in the hotel and put people on the bus next day too late, so due to the traffic jam, we barely made it to the airport, and then we had to stress the officials to put us on the fast passport control lane due to boarding time."

All the crew are so nice and it is their policy to give you all of the comforts - pillows, blankets, headphones, drinks (including alcohol), movies, musics, games, meals, snacks and probably more! I don't think they have a way to take money! This was the best flying experience I have ever had! The plane itself was also very nice. There was touchscreen in front of me with all kinds of entertainment plus a USB charger for my phone. They also made sure the closest connecting flight folks had gate attendants waiting for them. The service is phenomenal all the way around!"

However, this would be better handled when she requested for assistance during her booking process. The crew should've anticipate her needs and booked an aisle seat, or even be the ones to ask me or another passenger if I would be willing to trade. I was placed on the spot and no courtesy was shown to me. My legs were completely swollen and in pain because I wasn't able to stand periodically. I too booked my flight early and requested my seats appropriately for my health needs."

There was plenty of time and the shuttle was already full, and we wanted to wait for the next shuttle to board the airplane together. She came out several times from inside of the building shouting at the three of us to get on the shuttle even when the person managing the shuttle flow at the bottom of the stairs was about to let us wait for the next shuttle. What was her problem(?) - she could use a lot more people skills and realize who pays her salary - the customers. She really tarnished the whole image and impression I originally had of TA. Also, there was no way to go to the bathroom without going through a long line of security again at the last gate before the shuttle which did not make sense."

For the leg from Istanbul to Los Angeles I confirmed a window seat when I checked-in online. However, when I arrived at the airport I has a middle seat and could not change it and the 15 hour flight was miserable. I also asked to be upgraded to business class and told it would be $3,500.00, which was ridiculous."

The issue came when we tried to leave Athens the airlines then said that I had to purchase a one-way ticket! They informed me that the flight was cancelled for my daughter because she didn't fly to Athens. The ticket was almost $1,500.00 and I intend to get my money back but it was unfortunate that they had to charge me for it in the first place."

The flight the attendants blocked anyone fromaim cabin from leaving until all of first class had departed, even when no one was coming they still Blocked it off. This is a practice I have never seen on delta and haven't seen in aviation in almost 20 years in the US"

For my part I did not choose this option, since I was traveling with a person with mobility problems and separated the group for admission to the process of entering the USA."

Virgin Australia contatcted out their flight from SJC to LAX through Delta and Delta cancelled flights becaue no-show of Pilot to operate the plan. What a Joke???? We asked them to put us through another carrier to LAX for connecting flight they refused.Very very BAD. It was a big miss for us.. never again Delta/Virgin Australia.............."

We saw people with two big bags get on board at the start, and then staff made everyone at the back of the line check their bags. But there was plenty of bin space before take off. And we were seated in the last row which can't recline."

We were given blankets and pillows. The best thing was the ground staff getting rude after all passengers complaining. They were basically saying we should get stuffed since we were booked for a flight next day same day. This is shameful! Needless to say that I will not fly this airline again!"

Plusy: "Reassuring that the airport desk staff were keeping an eye on my connection from LAX to Columbus. Turned out it was too tight of a squeeze and I missed the connecting airplane's door closing by a few minutes, despite having RUN through LAX to get there."
Minusy: "I am disappointed by the lack of communication among Delta staff when we arrived at LAX. Our turn-around was late coming into SMF, thus late leaving. It would have been very helpful if the gate staff at LAX had advised me to not bother to try to make my connection, or called the next gate to tell them we were running over there. RUNNING. Or at least done something to act like they cared. I am disappointed by the lack of initiative. I understand flights cannot wait, and I would have greatly appreciated being saved the trouble of running to a different terminal and instead taking that time to change my travel plans. They may see travelers struggling like this daily, but to each traveler, a hiccup in travel plans trip is stressful and urgent. I ask Delta staff to please consider that when they come to work. Thank you."

There was a problem getting on, they allowed premium members to board but when I got to the plane, I was scolded by the cleaning crew lady (maybe the Mgr) that they were not ready and that she had informed 'them' of that and that no one is allowed to board while they are cleaning."
Minusy: "Short flight didn't provide food or beverage service. Cabin crew announcements were rapid & muffled, difficult or impossible to hear or understand. Would not have felt confident if there'd been an emergency."
Plusy: "I had a great seat (exit row) with lots of legroom. They provided a free breakfast, and it was actually pretty good. A few hours later i was hungry and tried to buy some food but the cabin crew just gave my another breakfast item. The flight arrived on time, and the luggage was delivered a few minutes after I arrived at the baggage area."

It was a good flight.

Lufthansa IT meltdown prevented online check-in. Even though the US has just now allowed tourist visits to the States to resume, and Lufthansa is booked solid, they staffed only one third of their check-in counters to sort out all the ESTA and vaccination paperwork-related issues. Arrived two hours pre-boarding, lines around the terminal. Needless to say, they had me wait until I missed the flight (all my paperwork was in order, and I didn't have checked luggage). Berlin Flughafen, Deutsche Bahn, Deutsche Lufthansa; it's sad to see what Germany has come to. Lufthansa has fallen far behind the industry benchmarks. Their inept IT, middling on-board product and inability to synch their systems with Star Alliance partners (I was on a United Codeshare) make them a poor choice for international travel. This trip will have been my last with them.

The crew is very courteous and professional. You really can’t go wrong with this airline."

Minusy: "I missed flight to Los Angeles because of laziness and carelessness of Lufthansa employees. I came with the train on 12/26/16 at 8:33 am to catch flight to Los Angeles at 10:05 am. I had plenty of time. As soon as got of the train I got into line to check my luggage. I had boarding pass already. Line to check luggage was huge with 2-3 clerks to check luggage for all US flights. After while I complained that I will miss flight to several clerk who were standing around talking on the phones all the time but answer, if I got one was, sir you will be fine. After one hour I got to security check line which was equally long. I complained again no response. With probably 20 minutes left I cut the line on my one mad as hell. I got at 10:00 am at the gate and some older lady was like " Sorry sir we closed the flight". I said "What do you mean, it is 10 am and flight is at 10:05am??? "Sir we sold your ticket" I couldn't believe her words. Anyway they sent me to Munich to catch flight to LA next day. Best part I HAD TO PAY HOTEL IN MUNICH BECAUSE LUFTHANSA DID WANT TO COVER EXPENSES. I don't know what happened to famous German organizational skills or this is just Lufthansa and her careless employees."

I told the crew member checking us in that other people that was checking in with the same hand carry size luggage with us had no problems taking it with them. For being about to be on a 17 HOUR FLIGHT we should be ALLOWED to have our carry ons with us! We take carry ons for that reason! I had to argue and prove my case to the crew member to atleast keep 1 carry on with us. I thought that was an UNACCEPTABLE reason for us to check in a carry on luggage when we had a 17 hour travel time ahead of us. Not a happy costumer here."

The ticket agent, the gate agent and the cabin crew all did nothing to make up for the fact that their system screwed up and stuck me in a cramped coach seat in the back of the plane for 11 hours-- TWICE! Beyond that, KLM must have one of the oldest fleets in the sky. Both ways LAX->AMS->LAX, I was on a 30-35 year old 747 with no wifi, no power and a ten-year-old entertainment system. Never again."

I booked through Kayak, trusting them. But they used one of these cheap online travel agents - Chatdeals. When I missed my flight due to a 3 hour train delay that was out of my influence, Chatdeals refused to rebook without a fee. SAS couldn’t rebook either. So I was stuck and lost the flight. Had to buy a complete new one. Never book through kayak or one of the cheap ones. Always airline direct! Expensive lesson learned… 🙂 Jan

Everyone boarded and then we sat for well over an hour with occasional updates from crew that the airport was slow loading luggage. It's hard to believe the airline or airport are serious about COVID prevention when they deliberately leave customers in crowded conditions. First international flight I've had where passengers were charged for beer, wine, and even water.

Roomy, neat, organized and I felt despite being in the main cabin that all passengers would get an equal amount of attention and care. Great airline.

Had to ask flight attendants to ask them to raise seats, at least during meal service. Food was worst of any international flight we've been on and we fly internationally several times a year. Very poor selection of movies and map was not working this flight."

Minusy: "Crew was rude. The bathrooms became disgusting halfway thru the foight w no toilet paper. For 6 hours we were down to one bathroom in coach. Unacceptable. My daughter never got her final meal and the flight attendant was rude when I asked her about it and never returned w food. Never fly SAS"
Plusy: "Boarding was easy, I'm a Star Alliance Gold member so was able to get on board first. There were significant delays leaving Dulles and our connection was tight, but SAS held the flight so I give them props for that."
Minusy: "The crew was grumpy and unhelpful, but I can usually overlook that. What really got me was this: YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR BEER & WINE ON THIS INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT! Never in my 25 years of international travel have I seen this from a mainstream carrier. For this fact alone, I will never fly this airline again. You also have to pay to pick your seats in advance."
Plusy: "Friendly service, good movies. Easy flight, arrived early."
Minusy: "Being served two versions of a ham and cheese wrap in a row. Variety would have been nice."

Minusy: "I tried to change the return date, as my work schedule changed. And I was told it would cost me $1300. So I had to buy a whole new ticket and ended up not using my ticket bought on Kayak at all. Shame."
Minusy: "TV's on our whole row did not work for the entire flight. Reading lamp was burned out. It would have been tolerable for a domestic flight but these amenities are needed and appreciated on a six hour flight!"
Plusy: "The boarding was more organized than our other flights with this airline. Cabin crew was friendly."
Minusy: "The food was not so good. It looked like they were really trying to cut corners with very small portions."

Plusy: "Fish was excellent, flight attendant gave me free wifi after after I had an issue to pay w my card, I was let through express security in copenhagen, US border protection was fast and easy."
Minusy: "I didn't get a window seat and it was a little bit tight."
Plusy: "Crew was very friendly, food was amazing. SAS plus is the way to go. Bigger seats, very comfortable for a ten hour flight."
Plusy: "Everyone was friendly and helpful."
Minusy: "Would have liked more options for Movies."
Plusy: "The crew was knowledgeable, gracious and helpful for the entire flight. I enjoyed the mapping and camera feature of the plane. The selection of options for entertainment was a delight."
Minusy: "How do you say to close for comfort but then one gets what one pays for and the economics are understandable yet I did not care for the cramped space provided."
Minusy: "Unfriendly and rude desk help. Rude and insulting. United was a real disappointment. I will ask my travel agent to be in touch re screw up the economy plus seats. I had to pay extra for what our itinerant said had been booked. Mary, at the desk at C12 in Delles, she wouldn't give me her last name was unbelievably insulting and unhelpful."

Minusy: "The flight is very noise they never turn off the lights and close the windows so it's very hard to try to sleep."
Plusy: "The entertainment system is top notch. And the food was actually good. The crew was very friendly and helpful."
Minusy: "Couldn't use the WiFi without paying extra, even on an international flight. The seats are among the most uncomfortable I have ever flown in. There is so little room that it is virtually impossible to sleep, even on an 8-hour flight. The purser's English was atrocious, nearly incomprehensible, and he didn't seem to care whether anyone understood him or not."

Minusy: "Delayed flights, microphone is too fuzzy, hard to understand. Also why couldn't we get 2 or more sodas.. Crazy! The Asian airlines beat you! Very expensive stuff like a small red bottle of wine was like almost $15! Nuts... Very disappointed.. It should be free for the money we pay! Also staff just let people leave their windows open which was crazy coz most passengers are tired from other trips and of course in Europe you can hardly see anyone letting the elderly and children have any first priority boarding or let alone line up. I had my disabled husband and a young active little grandchild... Cathay Pacific, PAL,KAL, CAL are great about priority boarding for the elderly and children. Its sad your company do not have compassion or empathy for families with little children and the elderly population.. They really suffer!"

Plusy: "Lots of movie to chose from. Chicken Curry was tasty."
Minusy: "The person in front of me put the seat back so far that I had almost no room to get up—then glared at me when I had to pull on the seat back to get out."
