We did not receive any compensation, but Singapore/Silk Airlines told us they were able to get us a flight home to LAX instead, but that it wouldn't be until the next day. We spent money on a hotel and food and waited until the next morning, got to the airport early for check in only to find that Singapore/Silk had in fact, given up our seats that they had promised us. They said that we now would have to wait another day just to get a flight from Singapore to LAX. We asked to speak with a manager, and eventually were able to get two seats due to cancellations. This was intended to be a very special and romantic trip that was essentially ruined. Since no one could have anticipated that the volcano would cause cancellation, we should be refunded for our flights. We are so crushed that we did not get to go to Bali, and now we may NEVER get to go because we are out of money. At the VERY least, the leg of our flights from Singapore to Bali, and Bali to Singapore, should be refunded. We are extremely disappointed."

Minusy: "I purchased 3 legs of a trip on-line and tried daily for 50+ days to make a seat reservation. Occasionally, a screen would appear that stated a fee would be charged. I had no problem with that and was prepared with my credit card to make payment only to be told "oops there was an error" and the transaction could not be completed. I called the Garuda contact number in the U.S. twice and was told there was nothing that could be done from the US and I would have to take care of it when I arrived in Bangkok. I probably will never fly Garuda again so it really will not be a problem."

Minusy: "The one thing I don't like about Garuda is so many announcements. They want to announce every things that happens. There is a reason why the seatbelt signs are there. You don't have to say what we will have in the menu as we have it. The entertainment system is has average collection and they are not organized. That includes the movies. The music section is terrible, I was not able to recognize any of the artist. It is sad that they don't take their entertainment system seriously. With their service and new fleet, you will expect to have a great entertainment system but sadly it is not."

Plusy: "Business class from Bangkok to San Francisco was good overall, especially for $1400 one way. Food was not very good for business class, was more in line with JAL, EVA, Korean or ANA econo class but again, for the price, no complaints. Great friendly service, quick boarding. Priority Pass didn't have a lounge in Manila but thankfully, Philippines Air had their own lounge with great food and drinks for 1st Class and Business class ticket holders. Plane from BKK to Manila was NICE and comfy, all latest technology with beautiful fully adjustable chairs that lay flat. Would fly with them again!"

Plusy: "First let me say I am a big fan of Philippine airlines. The customer service is outstanding, I am always made to feel very comfortable and the movie selection is great. I would give them a 10/10...if it weren’t for the surprisingly below-average special meal selection....read on..."
Minusy: "I have been a gluten-sensitive foodie for 7 years. I am not vegetarian. I still eat sugar, salt, spices, dairy, and fat. I have order a GF special meal for the past 3 or 4 trips I’ve flown but I always end up asking for one of the regular meals instead because the GF meals are SO awful. They are completely devoid of all salt, sauces, spices or any flavor, and are so bland that it’s like eating astronaut cardboard food. For example...the last flight I took (Manila-San Francisco), the regular meal options were a chicken sausage dish with some mashed potatoes and veggies, a wonderful colorful julienne vegetable salad, a flan pudding (GF by nature) and some bread with butter. The other option was a delicious smelling pork belly over rice (seriously some of the best pork belly I’ve ever had) and some veggies with the same sides. Everything was gluten-free except for the bread roll and looked much more colorful and fresher overall. By contrast, the GF “special” meal that I received was a plain chicken breast with no salt, steamed veggies that were overcooked and mushy to the point of colorless baby food, with no spices or sauces, a watered-down fruit salad, a rice cake with no butter and a banana instead of dessert. I was amazed at how bland and flavorless it was. Gluten-free does not mean sugar-free, low-fat, or dairy free. It simply means the absence of wheat flour. I still like sauces and spices. And I still like butter. A non-fruit dessert would have been nice. And since when does gluten-free mean flavor-free? I would have MUCH rather preferred the regular meal option with just a gluten-free rice cake substitute. Thank god they had extra regular meals for me to eat instead. Point being…if you’re not extreme celiac and just gluten-sensitive, I recommend ordering off the regular menu and just omitting the bread roll. The flavorless meal isn’t worth it!"

Most food shacks do not take credit card and no atms to get cash, come on this is 2018. Also my wife was unable to get her seats confirmed in Thailand for comection in Manila to Vancouver which meant having to line up in the basement in Manila and then argue that we wanted our seats together for the long haul home."

Minusy: "During flight- attendant would put her hands all over the cups when filling up water etc. I could not even get water after watching how she handled things that guests would be drinking out of. The flight was - freezing. I turned my light on, no one came to me. I then went and found an attendent (2 different times) and discussed that it was very very cold. I asked to see if they had another blanket, they said no. They didn't do much to change the temperature. I watched for 15 minutes, and no one went to change it. Once they did, it didn't help the situation. Later I requested again, and similarly nothing happened. The food- terrible. Dried up hashbrowns, that were overcooked. Meat, I couldn't even eat."

Plusy: "One of the flight attendants from my flight to Manila from Bangkok was very helpful in getting the ground crew to help me transfer from terminal 2 to terminal 3 by using the transfer bus. One of the taxi drivers wanted to take me for 800 pesos. But not only did I not have to deal with traffic on the street but be cause we were riding on the tarmac we saved a lot of time. Thanks to the helpful flight attendant."
Minusy: "We left late from Bangkok and I was afraid I would not make my connection."

Minusy: "Philippine Airlines makes it hard to upgrade seats. No on board entertainment."

Plusy: "4 flights all delayed more than 4 hours."
Minusy: "Whoever is in charge of their logistics need to be fired. rheu. An figure it what plane needs to be at what gate when. They tired to buy us off with tuna sandwiches. Their Terminal in Manilla is hands down the worst I have visited. On the flight my TV was broken so I was forced to watch the bald spot on the guy in front of me for 13 hours. Will never fly again."

Minusy: "Flight delayed for 5 hours - Connection from Manila was going to be very close. Flight attendant assured me multiple times they would hold the connecting plane, and give us an escort off the plane to make it to the other gate as fast as possible. We arrive in Manila, and there is no special escort. They take us at a regular pace to a connections desk in the terminal. They delayed helping us so we missed the only other flight leaving that night for Bali. While the person at the transfer desk was supposed to be helping us get new connecting flights, they would stop helping us, and take care of other people that showed up at the desk. It took them 1 1/2 hours to rebook our flight. They tried to put us on a flight that took over 20 hours with connections for a direct flight we had missed that would take about 4 hours of flying. We had to get on Kayak.com ourselves to find a better connecting flight that left the next morning. After 1 1/2 hours, the attendant finally put on a flight that was similar to the one we found but slightly worse. They said they could not work with certain airlines leaving from Manila, which I did not understand. Then, they proceed to tell us to go wait in the terminal overnight for the flight leaving the next day. We had to directly ask them to give us a hotel room for the night, which they did upon our request, but were not going to offer it without us asking for it. I understand delays and missed flights are part of air travel. But we were routinely lied to, ignored, and flat out pushed aside during the rebooking process. It was a completely unacceptable way to treat a customer. Never fly Philippine Airlines if you can avoid it."

Minusy: "Connecting flight was delayed 1.5 hours which became 2.5 hours without notice. Had to run through airport to catch flight back to LAX which almost did not happen. Luggage did not make it despite prior assurances. Luggage was finally delivered more than 24 hours later. Employees were without information and only apologetic after much protest. No compensation offered. Writing formal complaint."

Minusy: "The fact that u would not let me board without a leaving ticket. I have a wife and daughter there, and also PI ID. I missed my daughter's birthday. I will never forgive that"

Minusy: "Of the four total flights, to include connections, Philippine Airlines was delayed on all legs. The delays were all after boarding and while sitting in plane. Delays ranged from 30 minutes to 75 minutes and all four flight delays were reported to be due to delays in getting baggage on the planes or getting the meals loaded on the planes according to the pilot's reports. Of note, on all four flights, the crew ran out of food before getting to our isle and had only one option remaining with no alternatives for those allergic to any portion of the meal. I would absolutely never recommend Philippine Airlines to anyone. The reduced cost of tickets was absolutely not worth the experience."

Minusy: "Seats were very small. Think Asian size. I am 5foot 10 inches and it was a struggle to sit there for 3 hours. There is no tv on the plane. They want you to use your personal device which I would not do as this would drain my battery. There is no charging station on the plane. 3 out of the 4 PAL flights were delayed each by two hours or more. I would not take this airline again. I got a cheap fare of $600 roundtrip and now I know why it was so cheap. The airport in Manila is so shitty limited seating and limited choices of food."

Minusy: "leg room only enough for shorter people. Tall people will have their knees pressed against the seat in front. If you are tall and ask for a bulk-head seat, you will be asked to pay a huge increase in price. Zero consideration will be given to weather the seat is adequate. If you want an adequate seat, you must pay as if you wanted luxury. Also, the food was horrible. Also, even some international flights will have NO entertainment system at all and no means to charge your cell phone so you can entertain yourself."

Plusy: "Nothing hated every minute of the cattle car ride from hell"
Minusy: "Delays horrible flight attendants extremely small seats"

Plusy: "For group check inc check-in personnel were inflexible. Nearly missed flight despite being in airport 2.5 hours before flight."
Minusy: "Personnel were not listening to situation and issues that would be affecting passengersdespite taking to supervisor."

Plusy: "The movie selection was good which made the 14 hour flight bearable. The flight crew was very polite and helpful."
Minusy: "The flight was delayed until the following morning which reduced our trip by a day so we lost money on our hotel for a night. The airline didn't automatically adjust our connecting flight so had to call and make the adjustments. Also, it was really hard to check our flight information online since we went through a third party to book the flights. It's like they don't communicate with each other so neither seemed to be able to release the information to us."

Plusy: "The pilot tried to stick to the schedule."
Minusy: "My seat didn't recline properly. A lot of turbulence (over 90% of flight time) due to the monsoon season, I guess. The aircraft was somewhat small, Airbus A320-200."

Plusy: "Not much"
Minusy: "Service was bad, delayed flight, etc."

Plusy: "The flight staff was more than accommodating to my husband and myself as we both had become very ill . They did everything they could do to make us comfortable. The airline put us up in a hotel for the evening and got us on a flight the next day."
Minusy: "First I would like to say I understand things go wrong that are out of the airlines control but being grounded on a run way for ten hours is absolutely ridiculous . We both became very ill about two hours after eating on the flight to the point of needing medical attention. The delay ended up costing us $179 extra dollars for our car parked and it would be more than reasonable and expected for you reimburse us for this cost. Minusy: "MH hospitality has gone down. Those days they were the best of the best. Now, there is hardly any hospitality at all. Very disappointing."

Minusy: "My entertainment system was not working, so was my seatmate's."

Minusy: "I have never had to stay at a hotel overnight because of a missed connection but when I made the reservation I wondered how you would honor the 1 hour layover and not miss. I wondered this before any of your delays. I was assured the connection would wait but not correct and you did miss. If you would have told me at the airport this would happen I would have made other arrangements. Instructions on what to do was quite poor too. As a foreigner to be handed a stack of vouchers without direction on where to go for transportation wasn’t satisfactory."

Plusy: "Because I had missed my original connecting flight, the airlines booked me at an overnight hotel and my new flight seat number was premium economy. This was fine in the end, but in the moment I practically cried."
Minusy: "Again, not being delayed and having to miss my original connecting flight would have been best."

Plusy: "The food"
Minusy: "I was given a window seat but without a window. I felt I cannot breath. I saw many empty seats around"

Minusy: "I was incorrectly charged credit card fees by BudgetAir as I paid via debit card and they never replied to my emails or answered the phone. This caused stress as my bank account went overdrawn. Cannot recommend BudgetAir at all. Appalling lack of customer service. Avoid like the plague!"

Plusy: "Window seat was good for enjoy very wonderful outside view."

Minusy: "It will be nice if there’s choice for vegetarian meal"

Minusy: "No seat back entertainment. Very old plane."

Minusy: "The KUL to DPS leg was on one of the oldest planes I’ve flown. A 737 with no seat back screens. They handed out 2 inch thick “tablets” in Business class, with no touch screen and only a handful of 10 year old movies."

Plusy: "All of the ground staffs at Johor Bahru provided attentive and observant service. Cabin crew greeted with pleasant smile, friendly and provided excellent service."

Minusy: "* Business lounge was pathetic with NO food, only drink and snack. * Boarding was not efficient and took longer that it should have so had a late take off. * Business class.... Ran out of food!?!?! What the heck! only water available for 6 of 16 seats! Pathetic * Terminals not updated so had to take transfer to another terminal to get my arranged ride."

Minusy: "Delayed of baggage claims for 1 hour, flight retimed/delayed for more than 1hour"

Minusy: "My checked bag did not arrive at my work city of Singapore. It took 2 days to be brought to my hotel despite my being told they would be on the next flight. I arrived back in Denpasar yesterday and, again, my bags are lost and I again I was told they would be on the next flight. I still do not have my bag. Seems to be a pattern with Malaysian Airways and I will avoid them in the future, Also, I left my Ipad plugged in at the Premier Lounge in Denpasar and realized it as I was boarding the plane. The Malaysian Air boarding staff got on radios and appeared to try to help by telling them to put aside for pick up upon my return. Yesterday, The Premiere lounge said they did not have it despite my name, email and phone number being written on the Ipad. Between Malaysian Air and the Lounge and their lack of concern and professionalism it was not a good trip. As One World Emerald member, I steer a lot of business towards these One World Airlines. I expect better treatment."

Minusy: "I request for extra water but I was just given the glass which was on my tray. The Stewart told me he would come back but never did... not very nice One Air Asia, sûre you have to pay for the drink but you don't stay thirsty, and finally ticket is much cheaper..."

Plusy: "Good on the plane and in the business class lounge was excellent"

Plusy: "I like having my knees up in my eyeballs on a plane and having to be pried out of my seat with the jaws of life at the conclusion of a flight."
Minusy: "Flight was 3 hours late!"

Minusy: "When they served satay they didn't ask which I prefer beef satay or chicken one even they asked it to other passengers. After finishing the dinner they took forever to clear a napkin so I couldn't find dinner was finished or not. It was midnight so I wanted to sleep as soon as dinner was finished. When boarding they do security check. It's OK. But why don't they use business class gate even there was the one?"

Plusy: "Free beer and wine. Good inflight entertainment. Food ok."
Minusy: "Seats uncomfortable and not enough leg room for someone 6'02". They ran out of the chicken meal and I was stuck with the fish which wasn't that great."

Plusy: "Nothing"
Minusy: "Lost baggage took 24 hours to arrive. Rude staff."

Minusy: "Rude staff on ground and cabin crew. Delayed. Lost baggage. Terrible customer service. I would never fly again."

Plusy: "I actually thought the seats were pretty comfy. And they have in flight entertainment, no need to download an app or anything."
Minusy: "Wish I had known there would be a meal on the short flight. I usually request a vegetarian meal so I couldn't do it this time."

Minusy: "Website is a debacle, asked to preorder meals for business but can't, can't check in on line, business menu was limited, what was on the menu wasn't offered. Seats are uncomfortable, short & narrow. In general for the amount of money paid for business, it's the worst yet"

Plusy: "On time departure, nice aircraft and entertainment."

Plusy: "We missed our flight connection in KL due entirely to our fault. M-Air staff helped us get onto the next flight. Economy was full so we paid for an upgrade to business class but we were seated in first class. Wonderful crew, service, cabin and flight."

Minusy: "I'm a 4 years Globe trotter Malaysia airlines is one of the worse companies I know my backpack new generation for great traveller by few months before at $600 form Kathmandu been torn up ( tear ) with shoes print on my backpack I'm not recommend this companies to anyone it was my first and last time I used ."

Plusy: "The flight was quick and the service was good."
Minusy: "The flight was delayed and arrived almost one hour later than scheduled arrival."

Plusy: "Our plane was late coming from Bangkok. We had to run in KL to catch the next flight. We did not get our luggage when we arrived in Bali. Still don't have it after 24 hours."
