The location was good, very touristy, but this is a matter of preference, its just above the metro station. the first room we got was disappointing. but the hotel agreed to move us the next night to a nicer room with no extra charge a great view and furniture that wasnt overused. overall the hotel needs a to be renovated because indeed it has a lot of potential
needs to be renovated! the shower isn't great especially for a 5-star hotel standard
Traditional, clean, kind staff, convenient. Perfect!
Nothing
Very kind stuff. Clean and calm. Very well placed.
Superior suite in poor condition. Some traces on bath floorcaused by falling shower head. In the bath corners black traces caused by humidity. Lot of scratches on the wall. No slippers.
From the moment I walked in to the moment I left, I was treated very well.
The pillows were a bit too big for my liking, however that is a personal preference and nothing to complain about.
Great room size and location Staff were friendly Lovely bar area
N/A
Great location surrounded by lots to see in walking distance, hotel was absolutely amazing to detail
Room was very clean and was always fresh when we came back, food was amazing. Most staff helpful.
Some staff were very abrupt, most were very friendly and helpful, was sent away when I asked to purchase water? Generally just rude. Bathroom has some wear and tear ie under the sink.
Location in the city center, close to Grande Place. Friendlyness of staff. Beautiful building.
A pitty there‘s no spa...
Fast breakfast good and cheap
bathroom extras very poor -soaps, shampoo etc
location is great.
My room was in need of refurbishment. It all was pretty outdated. Shower (in the bath) was difficult to operate. i asked for a wake-up call, but never got it.
Old style decour
The chandelier rattled a bit too much when the people above walked around
Great Location Old style hotel welcoming staff
a little bit old facilities (e.g. bathroom need to be renovated)
Rooms lovely and spacious
Beautiful hotel, good breakfast, centre location.
some equipments are old.
The desighn of hotel
Room are very old and many broke things
Perfect location for a stay in Brussels. Close to shopping area and sightseeing. Everything you need steps away :)
I bought this two night break for my son and his fiancé from Portugal to celebrate their special anniversary. They were very pleased as the hotel was everything they’d hoped for and more. The icing on the cake was that they were upgraded to a suite which they loved. Thank you to the staff
The view from the bedroom wasn’t great but the suite was so luxurious and more than made up for it,
The property itself was stunning, grand open spaces and large rooms made me feel as though I was part of a royal family. The members of staff we met on our first day were polite and helpful. The room was beautiful and very large, we were very impressed.
There were a few little things that I felt could be worked on to make a huge difference. The room we stayed in was lovely however the bathroom needed a little repairing, the tiles had no grouting around the bath and it was a little bit of an eyesore. The mini bar was supposed to have water, coke and beer which would have been lovely especially as being pregnant I can’t drink from the taps, however there were only two cans of coke (by the time we realised what was supposed to be in the fridge it was our last night) the guest book was hidden away behind the room service pack. It would be great to have tea/coffee facilities in room. I recommend bringing your own shampoo and conditioner, they have shampoo but it dried out hair out quite badly.
It’s about 15 minutes walk from the central railway station. We may easy to find some good restaurants and cafe near the hotel. It’s different from the modern 5 stars hotels, it’s old-fashioned, but I love it decorations. The staff is really kind and helpful.
Everything is good.
The reception area was nice.
Could not check in until 3pm. Wall paper torn off walls in room. Took a deposit on arrival which still has not been returned 4 days after checking out. Could not avail of the late check out option. No service in the reception area only the restaurant. Restaurant did not accept revolut cards only Visa cards. Some staff were rude.
Aesthetics of the hotel are nice
Rude staff and a makeshift room. Asked to pay for an upgrade but we're told there were no rooms. Same day we heard two ladies being told their room was being upgraded for free. Poor customer services
the lobby is amazing! some of the room are amazing with great energy.
.there is some rooms that are very old and looks very bed. the smell was awful although, we asked the stuff to change our room, and they were very survey and upgraded us to an amazing room! the BreakFast is very basic.
We stayed in a junior suite, very comfortable
Some parts a bit dated but still a really nice hotel
Employees were very good.
The room decoration was horrendous. Red carpet and red wallpaper all over looked like it hadn’t been updated since it opened.
Good location
Very dated hotel. Massively overdue a refurb.
nothing,unfortunately
it was disgusting...I live in the room on the first floor. And there I can hear all the sounds outside my room. And in the room there was big problem with a bathroom.Firstly, terrible smell.Secondly, the water on the floor.I don't want to return in this place.
Location ease of checkin and size of room
Bar area was not great and very expensive
Drinks in the fridge are complimentary, the hotel staff helped us to book a taxi and were always friendly and tried to cater for our needs. Breakfast was excellent. Location was amazing.
The kettle in the room is on request and you have to pay extra for any tea bags or coffee.
Great location. Old world charm.
Beautiful historical building! Great staff: I had a problem which was solved immediately.
The bathrooms would need to be renovated
Location, easy access to Metro and close to Midi
No coffee/tea in room :)
Quality and historical building , comfortable bed, Professional and polite staff especially at breakfast, nice city center location , excellent impression. A retourner !
The location of this hotel is excellent, it's right in the center and of walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go. Our room was spacious with a comfortable bed and we were given free late checkout.
Very old hotel! The furniture looked so old with scratches all over it. They really need to renovate the place as it looks disgusting. We weren't given robes, slippers, lotion, etc., which are things we expect from a 5 star hotel, especillay when they are usually given at less "fancy" hotels. On top of that, there were only two tiny pillows on the bed and when we tried to take a bath the water was murky blue??!
Location and friendly staff and the old classy furniture..
The gym is very poor regarding equipment and area... It must be changed ... i could not play ..
The location is right in the Center of Brussels. The rooms are spacious, and clean. The hotel has a History, is classy (only from the outside).
The Hotel desperately needs a renovation. It is falling in ruins, I noticed that the walls and the decorations are stained, lost their original colour, are sometimes even broken. It looks like abandonned. And its a shame because it is a Historic old hotel, which could justify the high prices in the cafeteria. but right now, it doesn't. I will not be coming back unless a renovation is done.
Very nice hotel, good location, good price for Brussels. Nice breakfast. And great staff especially for Belgium.
The location, room comfort, cleanliness and the friendly staff were all great. It was a short walk to all sorts of restaurants and hangouts. It was a short ride from the airport too! I would stay here again.
Everything was great!
Location is superb.
Have had a very poor experience relating to billing and the authorisation hold on my card, as well as the hotel stay debited from my account, which equated to double charging on my account which only showed up a week later. I spoke to Accounts at the hotel this morning and found the staff member quite rude. Was not made aware of this by staff when my card was being used. I was expecting a refund for security deposits to see what looks like a double charge on my account which hopefully is being sorted today, but I should have been made aware of.
Wow this place felt like a Palace so beautiful amazing location and the staff were more than happy to help with everything!
Would have been nice to have some water each day provided
Very cold is my only complaint.. staff was very friendly and helpful
location, interior and breakfast
Me and wife were assigned to a room with broken heater. After complaining the stuff put us in another room with a broken heater also. Luckily we had a ground heater that warm a little bit the room. We didn’t complain again because we were tired and wanted to enjoy our vacation I’m very very disappointed 5 star hotel with terrible service
Classic hotel
The hotel retains old world charm (1895). Almost like staying in a palace or museum.
The air-conditioning unit in the room is loud. Had to turn off to sleep but it was comfortable without it.
Wonderful old hotel. Pleasant change from the big chain hotels and bland furniture. Old fashioned folding door lift was great! Lovely location with plenty of places to eat nearby. Only criticism is that the cooked breakfast was very expensive and not very good to be honest.
Breakfast
The location is perfect. Underground exactly near the hotel. A lot of shops and restaurants around the area and a cinema
Sometimes the lift wasn't working
Helpful courteous hotel staff. The location is perfect for walks to Grand Place and all the shops and sites in that area. Plenty of options for dining. Our room had a large terrace that was wonderful to view the city below.
The bathroom was very large, however the "water closet" was tiny. Your knees actually were in contact with the wall in front of you! Otherwise, very clean with all the amenities.
Excellent location and beautiful interior in the main lobby. Hotel staff was very friendly
The room was very outdated and different than room shown on the photos during booking. Room was located in the older section of the hotel and was definitely far from the 5 stars as hotel is listed. Standard wasn’t just near my expectations after seing photos
Location and breakfast were good
Room. I booked 1 superior double room. On the pictures it looked great but in real it was defenitely not. Room was located on 6th floor but it looked like the attick. Furniture was very old and damaged, floor carpet, furniture, bathroom looked like it was 30 years or more renovated for last time. They should defenitely not sell it as a superior room.
Metropole is an excellent hotel. It provides very good conditions.
location is excellent
The is no water heater nor coffee maker.
Classic ‘old school’ decor- good location
The English breakfast was expensive!
The staff were very friendly, the hotel was very very centrally located and the rooms were very spacious.
The bathroom had an odd smell. Otherwise, the room was great and the facilities were nice!
Location
All needs to be updated
Beautiful building, beautifully decorated.
Elaborate and expensive breakfast. Something simple and cheap to go would be nice. Now I had to walk to a kiosk nearby. Facility to make coffee or tea in the room would be expected.
It was very interesting to explore this hotel. My wife and I enjoyed reading notes of past famous visitors after the entrance.
There were no slippers. Also, bedside lamps could be turned on and off only through the plug which is quite an awkward way (potentially, there is a better way, but my wife and I failed to find it).
It is not 5 star hotel. Facilities are old and not clean enough - mold on the ceiling and dirty bathroom.
The breakfast offered so much choice, from full english, fresh pancakes, croissant, boiled eggs, meats, cheeses, cereals, yogurt etc. The coffee and tea options were extensive.
nothing
The hotel is old, prestigeous and has a beautiful history. The entrance, cafe snd halls are pretty and full of ornaments and details.
Our standard room was not like the photos. It was dark, with views on a dark and smelly alley. The room was not dirty but neither very clean. The gym was appreciated but looked disorganized and cramped.
Located in city center
Very old and dirty rooms, with peeling wallpaper and broken furniture. We had a huge cockroach in our room and hotel did not even managed to give us a normal discount afterwards. Service is bad, almost impossible to call reception or room service; cleaning staff doesn’t not work well neither.
Elegance Location
Bad WiFi No room commodities (no slippers)
The restaurant and bar are very nice
The rooms and the cleanness
Nice entrance and restaurant.
The room was far from 5 stars. I would say 3 is fair. Very overpriced for what you get and the pictures are misleading is every way.
Excellent coffee. Great location. Decorated as a beautiful castle.
The corridors are cold. not heated. The room is nice but could be better for a 5 star hotel.. No vegetables at breakfast!!! An omelette costs extra 7 €?!!
Perfect location in the city and lovely old features within the hotel itself. Great for the Christmas markets
It suppose to be a 5 stars hotel and in 4 days they couldn’t remove a dirty glass, we drank coca in it and it stay till the end dirty. I ask at the reception for fill up the mini bar twice. It never happened we bought our water outside. Now way to give it 5 stars I know what that means. But the ubicación is just fantastic we love it
We could not turn heating off, ending up with 27 degrees in our room. Problem was not fixed and we were offered a room of lower category than what we paid for. We decided to keep the room and sleep with windows open while 2 degrees outside. In general not what we expected. Took us 30min to checkout. Long cue and only 2 receptionists for such big hotel especially during Xmas period.
Room very comfortable and spacious, entrance hall amazing, staff friendly
Ordered wine for the room on arrival never arrived, told reception straight away and cancelled still tried to charge on checkout
Good location
The room looked nothing like the pics on booking.com. Very very old Rooms in desperate need of renovation. Bed was extremely uncomfortable.Would not stay at this hotel again
Good location
Room is too old.
Location was perfect
- A long time after check-in hour, the rooms still weren't available. They said, they were still cleaning them, but when we went to the concerned floor, nobody was cleaning so they made us wait for nothing. We went back to the reception to ask why were not allowed to enter the rooms and suddenly it was all fine and they gave us the keys. - One room was very cold because the heating was broken (middle of December!!). - Crawling disgusting bugs on the carpet!! - One of the 4 rooms we had booked, was ancient history old and dirty - I called the reception from inside the room once and the lady on the phone was extremely rude and unkind.
Good location. Nice hotel. Bath is good.
Services was bad. I came for holiday and stayed for 3 nights. In the room, they do not provide water, tea, coffee and kettle. Tried to call housekeeping and reception took too long to answer the phone. Every month, they came to knocked your door and tried to clean your room, and never care if the guest were still inside the room sleeping.
Everything else
The safe was on the floor of the wardrobe which was awkward.
Could have had tea making facilities in room
The downstairs / lobby area was so nice couldn’t fault it.
First room we got was so bad it’s advertised as a 5 star hotel and there was marks on bedding , the skirting boards around the whole room were scuffed and paint coming off also same on the doors and behind the bathroom door Pipes exposed . Then they upgraded us which at first we thought was great , it was better and bigger but same problems plus doors to the balcony can’t be closed properly . also no information given upon check in wasn’t told about the fitness room , about room service about anything that we might need to know while staying there . It was such a surprise considering how nice the downstairs lobby was etc . It wasn’t till we found the visitor book that had fell behind the table that we even knew about the fitness room
The staff were friendly, and helpful, specially Maria who was new to the job
Separate shower would have helped
The hotel was amazing. And we enjoyed the walk around . The location was perfect.
Bed was very comfortable
Nothing I didn't like
Location is good. Looks like a luxury hotel. Ancient and historical building. Rooms are big.
Staff is not too friendly... but ok.
Good location, perfect breakfasts (absolutely lovely stuff at breakfast room).
Room 106 had no view at all: wall of the building in 2 meters of room's window + kitchen downstairs. So, if you like to sleep with open window ask another room.
The ground-floor restaurant is a magnificent room - and the food is good, too.
Simple fast check in
They refused to give me boiler and complimentary coffee Lift was not working Did not get refund for the hold amount
Great location. Good restaurant.
Room was tired looking. Light switch fell off the wall. Check in was very slow.
Nice spacious rooms, great location and friendly staff
Great room with fabulous bathroom. Great Wifi and good buffet breakfast. Wonderful reception area and café with welcoming staff.
The room doors on the 2nd floor need repainting!
Location, breakfast and staff
Facilities in the room, housekeeping quality
Public areas were clean but it did not feel welcoming.
Although it seemed that some parts of the room had been refitted in the near past, it remained tatty and poorly equipped. The room was very cool when we first arrived.
Waffles and hot chocolate on heated terrace were very good
Location and continuous feeling of how old this building and set up was
The atmosphere and the location
The beds are too small, the facilities are very limited
Location and cleanliness
All good until checkout then waited 30 mins for a taxi then the taxi driver took us on a tour of Brussels 22 euros later we arrived at the station Google maps had a route a lot quicker not happy
The room allocated was historic in character and very clean. The chandeliers were very elaborate and the decorative curtains were impressive but this was not carried through with all the furnishings eg wardrobe. Although there was an impressive communal downstairs area this was set on one side and partially cordoned off and I never saw anyone there. However the restaurant area was fantastic and the food truely exceptional. Make sure you include a meal there. Bathrobes were provided but you did need to request them.
We found our room overly warm and tried to deal with this by turning down the heating, with little success. Unfortunately our windows were by the venting system and so we had the noise of that instead. I think we were just unlucky - rooms on lower floors were probably not as warm. That said it was not a deal breaker. If I were to go again would ask for a lower floor I think. breakfast can work out expensive. There is the option of petit dejeuner express for thosemore budget conscious.
Fine stately building
Rooms smaller than shown in the photos - maintenance needs improvement.
Location and quality of most rooms.
Had issue with staff at checking in, was issued wrong room, then told it was my fault for giving the wrong name ??? by rude receptionist. Try figure that one out. was finally resolved but not after an hour arguing. some rooms don't even merit 2 stars (Travelodge would be better)
Fantastic staff who were friendly and professional.
Dated room, very tired looking and all the light switches were falling off the wall.
The hotel does not have neither a lobby, nor bar. The rooms are either big, barely any furniture, or small. It is run down probably was worthwhile in 1910.
The room I got in no shape or form looked like the one I booked. They apologized for not having the room size I booked, offered me bigger one, which was dismal, barely had furniture. So decided to check out, but the hotel refused to refund me, said it was not possible. This place needs some serious revamping it is a disgrace, price/value are dismal. I have been in over 36 hotels in the last 2 years, I never gave any low ratings (below 7.5).
The perfect location in Brussels - I could walk to all locations of interest from the hotel, and the hotel is also in the middle of the shopping district with restaurants close by. My room had a balcony with a view over the local area.
The gym was a bit sad!
Breakfast was well worth the money. Location perfect for shops and bars. Room was excellent, with large bed, plenty of storage space and fridge.
It had a nice bathroom
The room looked really old with patched up wallpaper and had stains in the carpet.
Beautiful hotel, the rooms were clean and the 6 drinks in the mini bar were complimentary!
The beauty of the building and the common rooms. The old lift. This is a beautiful heritage place. The size of my bathroom and the bath itself.
The service and the room commodities. My room had two times no electricity. As soon as I used the hair dryer, the electricity went down. The heating did not work then I was given instead a small heater...Why then if the heating was not working, I was given this room? The room view was on a small narrow courtyard that looks dull. Most importantly, there is a total lack of daily management in this hotel. On a morning, I came out of the bath to see hardly a guy entering in my room without knocking first. He immediately disappeared and I heard excuses, but why to enter a room without knocking? It was 9h15am in the morning...
Some of the staff are nice. The location is somewhat convenient
I was kept waiting for 3 hours to check into my room. The hotel's official policy is that you check in only after 3 pm. If you arrive before then, you'll have to await for room availability. The manager selectively checked in many people ahead of me.
You could not ask for more. All Of the classic details in the architecture throughout the hotel. The service was ideal. The restaurant was impeccable.
Lobby was picturesque with marble and high ceilings. Rooms and rest of the building were not maintained well.
Room not at all as advertised. Grubby, Paint peeling, much smaller than advertised. Cold, damp feeling in room. Staff always too busy to help, rooms not ready on time. Not even a 3 star, not to mention a 5 star. Window faced a dark courtyard full of trash
Everything was perfect. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The Metro station is just outside when you step out of the hotel.
I found using the shower a bit challenging.
Location is excellent!
The room and the bathroom are old and have not been remodeled. There was no a/c
A beautiful hotel in a great location, with a metro stop right outside.
We were harassed and almost robbed right out front. If the city is dangerous at night, someone should've told us that before we left.
Location is excellent. Public transport reached the hotel entrance. The hotel is literally in the midst of downtown Brussels. Staff are extremely courteous and helpful. Tons of restaurants around. Lots to see within walking distance. Amazing experience!!!
None
The elevator.
Nope!
lovely olde worlddecor
inability to provide non feather pillow for allergy sufferer
Not rated accordingly. Hotel needs major uplift
Room is very old. Charge €6 for a bottle of water.
Allocation and the staff they are so cool
No
Location, old world style and size.
Felt really dingy. Definitely in need or better upkeep. Definitely did not live up the four star rating.
Center of Bruxelles
-- no hot water in our room, hotel did respond by moving us which was quite inconvenient to repack after unpacking -- poor service overall
Location
Very old hotel. Rooms small. Not many public areas to relax
Location!
The shower in the room was very small / difficult to use.
It was clean, and easy to get to anywhere downtown from the site.
There was a lot of construction outside, and the rooms felt a bit outdated (not just rustic but simply old)
Construction going on outside hotel. Didn't notice noise but took away from the atmosphere
Location
Staff has no sense of customer service,
Construction outside hotel, that I was not told about
One of the best hotels I've ever visit
Because of work near the hotel, the noise is so bad that after 7 am you can't sleep.
This was once a very nice hotel. It is a bit tired now. Major subway construction going on in front of the hotel. It is a bad sign when instead of a mint on your pillow, they leave ear plugs. It was once a 5 star hotel, but it is far from that now.
Fuse blew and all the electricity in the room went out. 15 minutes to get someone to fix it. Major construction in front. Temperature gauge doesn't work in the winter. The heat was always on and the room was very hot.
old hotel, nothing has been updated, the images of the hotel far from the quality you will see. Locals told me area is dangerous and far from where they would chose to stay.
low quality arrangements. 2.5 star quality. not the Lux hotel I was hoping to experience.
Location was great.
Street construction in front of the hotel made arrival and departure extremely inconvenient. Hotel staff helped a lot though.
The architecture and design was really cool!
It was slight more expensive than it should have been, considering the amenities were very basic.
Good location and beautiful old lobby. Friendly staff. Free mini-bar access in room.
Rooms are old and run-down. Maybe they were 5 star 30 years ago. but not today. No coffee machine or water heater. Pathetically slow WiFi.
It is a great, old hotel with large lobbies with high ceilings and with caged elevator. Room was spacious and bathroom large and updated.
Carpets should have been updated. Room a little musty.
Location and helpful staff.
The noise in our room was so bad that we were not able to sleep without ear plugs.
nice and elegant
could have been a little better maintained
Fantastic location, beautiful lobby.
Low pulsing noise in room. Also, poor view. The building in front of the room formed a tunnel that caused the wind to sound like a construction site. Hard to explain, but the noise was unpleasant. In the gym, water cooler didn't work
It's old world elegance. So ornate.
It's showing it's age.
Spacious room w comfortable bed
The service ,unbelievable good
